From a terraced vineyard on loess, Hiedler's 2017 Langenlois Ried Thal 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner is clear, fresh and slightly flinty on the nose that is remarkably well defined and precise. Full-bodied, piquant and elegant on the palate, this is a stunningly fresh, vital and finessed Grüner Veltliner from pure loess soils. It has a nice, stimulating grip and reveals a well structured, mineral finish. An impressive Thal!
Ludwig Hiedler, since recently forming a tandem with Ludwig Jr, has again produced a lovely range of crus that are characterized by their round juiciness, richness and concentration as well as their frisky vitality, structure and hidden purity, finesse and precision. All the grapes are slightly crushed to extract as much from the skins as possible, which gives the wines a special mouthfeel. The Rieslings from the Heiligenstein and the Gaisberg as well as the Grüner Veltliner from the Thal are great and age-worthy 2016s. Riesling lovers shouldn't miss the Ried Steinhaus whose price is almost unbeatable.
