Flint, iodine and spices on the nose. Very tightly wrapped, even a bit spiky today, with the lemon and grapefruit flavors intensified by firm acids and strong minerality. The wine's rather powerful components still need time to meld. Less harmonious and stylish than the Combettes, but has all the elements to make a superb bottle.
Delicate mineral aromas are exhibited by the 1999 Puligny-Montrachet La Truffiere. Medium-bodied and revealing outstanding underlying richness, this earth, mineral, and juicy citrus fruit-flavored wine would have earned an outstanding 90-point rating if its finish had been longer and more supple. It is, however, unquestionably an excellent wine, with gorgeously detailed flavors.
