The 2012 vintage is proving to be one of the most exciting years for grape growers and winemakers in recent memory. The year started dry with considerable worry whether there would be sufficient water for the growing season, but record setting rains in late March filled the ponds and saturated the soil providing the vines with the moisture needed for early-season growth. Our grapevines benefitted from warm weather in July and August without any significant heat waves. By mid-summer it was clear that an abundant crop had set and vigorous fruit thinning was required to maintain vine balance and ensure concentration of flavor in each grape. Harvest began around Boonville in mid-September and finished on October 20th, two days before the first rains of the season arrived. The resulting wines of 2012 have striking intensity and balance, and show great promise to be our most age worthy wines yet.

Always the last pick of the season, our 2012 Riesling flavors and aromatics clearly reflect its vineyard’s cool-climate located just six miles from the Pacific Ocean. The nose is full of aromas of green apple, lime zest, wet cement, and struck flint. Flavors of mandarin orange, white peach, and apple are lifted by the bright acidity of this bone dry Riesling. This wine will benefit from a few years of cellaring and will continue to gain complexity for many years to come.

FEL er det nye navn for Breggo Cellars. Navnet er nyt...men alt andet er som det altid har været - vinmarker, winemaker etc. Super velsmagende og Californisk Chardonnay når det er sværest at holde fingrene fra.

This Chardonnay is a blend of multiple clones sourced from Ferrington and Savoy Vineyards, located near the towns of Boonville and Philo, respectively, in Anderson Valley.

The fruit was harvested September 12 through October 8 at an average of 23.0° Brix, then whole cluster pressed to tank and settled for 24 hours. Fermentation occurred in neutral French oak barrels, and very limited malolactic fermentation was permitted. The wine was aged sur lie in 60 gallon neutral French oak barrels for nine months.

Winemaker Notes
The hallmarks of our Anderson Valley Chardonnay, bright acidity and vibrant fruit, are achieved by picking the grapes before the sugar gets too high, limiting malolactic fermentation, and using very little new oak. Aromatics of lemon panna cotta, verbena, and subtle hints of lime zest and struck flint give depth to the nose. On the palate, flavors of lemon zest, honey, and chamomile are punctuated by refreshing acidity.

Robert Parker:
FEL Pinot Noir Anderson Valley is a gorgeous introduction to the FEL wines. Juicy, dark cherries, flowers, sweet spices and a hint of oak emerge from a supple, juicy Pinot perfectly suited for drinking over the next few years. This is an especially forward Anderson Valley Pinot with plenty of appeal.

This wine is made of a blend of select clones including Pommard, Mt. Eden, Martini, and Dijon from Donnelly Creek, Savoy, Wiley, and Ferrington vineyards in the Anderson Valley Appellation.

The fruit was harvested September 2 through 17 at an average of 24.6° Brix, followed by a five to seven day cold soak at 55°F, a nine day primary fermentation peaking at 88-94°F, and a three to seven day extended maceration. The wine was aged sixteen months in 60 gallon French oak barrels, 42% of which were new. Coopers include Cadus, Rousseau, Quintessence, François Frères, and Sirugue.

Winemaker Notes
The aromatics this wine are bright with sweet notes of black cherry, pomegranate, boysenberry, and truffle. Hints of cinnamon, caraway, and toast are reflective of both Anderson Valley’s spice driven terroir, and the extended aging in French oak barrels. In the mouth, the wine is loaded with rich flavors of dark fruit, cocoa, and spice. The palate is refined with pleasant acidity and elegant tannins that continue to unfold after the last sip. This is a generous wine that will continue to evolve and drink well for at least half a decade.

Enkeltmarksvin fra Savoy Vineyard...
Winemaker Notes
Savoy Vineyard’s signature aromatics of black cherry, mint, and savory spices are particularly intense this vintage. As the wine breathes, the bouquet evolves and hints of cedar, toast, and cassis begin to appear. The weight and texture of the wine is particularly striking as flavors of black cherry, Bing cherry, kirsch, and Mission Fig explode in the mouth. Always among the most age-worthy of Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs, this Savoy will develop gracefully for many years to come.
